今週末はなんだかんだ毎日外に出歩いていた。 やはり、平日ではなかなかできない友人と会って酒飲んで遊んでリフレッシュするのは大事だなぁと思う。 気候もあってかそもそもイベントが少ないということもあるが、もっといろんなところに顔を出して新しいコミュニティーも作っていきたい。 トロントもあと 1 ヶ月ほどしたら暖かくなる予定なので楽しみだ。

I ended up going out every day this weekend. Getting together with friends — having drinks, hanging out, and just unwinding — is something I can’t really do on weekdays, and it’s a good reminder of how important that kind of reset is. There aren’t that many events around right now partly due to the weather, but I want to start showing up in more places and building new communities. Toronto should be warming up in about a month, and I’m looking forward to it.

SSL/TLS 証明書の歴史と証明書期限が短くなる背景がわかる網羅的な記事。 実は今専門性を高めるべく AWS ACM/PCA の重点的な勉強に取り組んでおり、ざっくり歴史を理解するには良い記事だった。 極限まで有効期限を縮小することにより、CRL や OCSP の問題にも取り組めるというのは面白かった。 一方で、短くなった期限によって自動化プロセスやその皺寄せが来るであろう Let’s Encrypt などの証明書発行側の課題というのも今後考えていかなければならず、引き続き気にしてウォッチしていきたい。

A comprehensive article covering the history of SSL/TLS certificates and the background behind the trend toward shorter certificate lifespans. I’ve been diving deep into AWS ACM/PCA lately to sharpen my expertise, and this was a great read for getting a broad historical perspective. It was interesting to learn that by shortening validity periods to the extreme, issues with CRL and OCSP can also be addressed. On the flip side, the burden this places on certificate authorities like Let’s Encrypt — dealing with automation at scale — is something I’ll need to keep an eye on.

完全にビジネスの戦場が、地上 → 空中 → 宇宙　の流れで変わってきていると感じる。 そういった面では、SpaceX や Blue Origin といった宇宙開発企業に目を向けてきた起業家達は先見の明があると言える。 宇宙ビジネスはこれからもっと盛り上がるのではないだろうか。 てかテキサスにデータセンター立てすぎじゃないか。。

It really feels like the battlefield of business is shifting: ground → air → space. In that sense, entrepreneurs who turned their attention to companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin early on clearly had great foresight. The space business is only going to get bigger from here. Also — aren’t they building way too many data centers in Texas..?

3. GTAでガソリン価格が週末に1リットルあたり8セント上昇

GTA 地域のガソリン価格が週末に 1 リットルあたり 8 セント上昇したというニュース。 調べてみるとカナダは原油に関しては超輸出大国であるが、内訳を見てみるとそのほとんどが Alberta という西部に位置する地域である。 東側はほとんど取れておらず、国内外から手に入れているように見受けられた。 輸入のほとんどがアメリカだが、一部中東（サウジ）に頼っており、イラン戦争の影響を受けなくはないように見えた。 まあきっと日本よりは影響は少ないだろう。

Gas prices in the GTA rose 8 cents per litre over the weekend. Digging into it, Canada is actually a massive oil exporter — but almost all of it comes from Alberta in the west. The eastern side produces very little and relies on domestic and foreign sources. Most imports come from the US, but there’s some dependency on the Middle East (Saudi Arabia), which means the Iran conflict isn’t entirely irrelevant here. Still, the impact is probably smaller than what Japan faces.

4. FIFA ワールドカップ向けチームカナダの新ジャージ公開

1986 年以来初の完全オーダーメイドユニフォームらしいのだが、見るからにいけてない。。 個人的にはもっとユニに力を入れるべきだと心底思う。 ユニのデザインによっては他の国からも需要があると思うからだ。 例えば、大学時代、うちのサッカーサークルではなぜかアイリッシュユニフォームが流行っていた。黄緑を基調としたデザインで白とのストライプな組み合わせもあったりして結構カッコ良かった。 同じように感じる人もいるだろう。サッカー自体さほど強くなくてもデザインだけで需要が生まれたりする可能性がある。 数十年に一度と言わず、毎年力入れてやった方が良いと思う。

Apparently this is the first fully custom-made uniform since 1986 — but honestly, it doesn’t look great. I genuinely think Canada should invest more in jersey design. A great design can drive demand even from fans in other countries. Back in university, our soccer club went through a phase of wearing Irish kits for some reason — yellow-green base with white stripes, actually pretty cool. I think a lot of people would feel the same way. Even if the team isn’t that strong, a standout design alone can create demand. They should be putting real effort into this every year, not once every few decades.

5. トロントのW杯交通計画で建設が停滞、新築住宅所有者にも遅延の可能性

ワールドカップのインバウンド対策として、周辺道路の交通をよくする目的で一定期間の関連建築は制限するらしい。 どれほどの人が来るかわからないが、大会に付随して各地でイベント等が行われるだろう。楽しみすぎる。

As part of the inbound strategy for the World Cup, construction in certain areas will apparently be restricted for a period to improve traffic flow around the city. I’m not sure how many people will actually show up, but there will definitely be events popping up all over alongside the tournament. Cannot wait.

6. 日本語特化 LLM「Rakuten AI 3.0」提供開始

楽天が約 7,000 億パラメータの日本語特化 LLM「Rakuten AI 3.0」をオープンソースで公開。 普段 ChatGPT や Claude 等を使っている分には、日本語への対応能力が物足りないなど微塵も感じたことがない（かなり雑に質問している）が、やはりより学問的で日本固有の文化知識などのインプット・アウトプットにはこういった国産 LLM が良いのだろうか。 そういえばサイバーエージェントも似たようなことを前にやっていたような。。 今のところ全く必要性を感じられていない。

Rakuten has released “Rakuten AI 3.0,” a Japanese-specialized LLM with around 700 billion parameters, as open source. In my day-to-day use of ChatGPT or Claude, I’ve never once felt like the Japanese language support was lacking (granted, my prompts are pretty casual). That said, for more academic use cases or tasks involving Japan-specific cultural knowledge, a domestically developed LLM might have an edge. CyberAgent did something similar a while back, if I recall. For now, I personally don’t feel the need for one at all.

Claude Code を実行するコンピューター以外、例えばスマホなどからリモートで指示出しや状況監視ができる機能。 実際試してみたが、これは良いかもしれない。 朝の時間がない時やジムでウォーキングしながらの作業として使えるかなと感じた。

A feature that lets you send instructions and monitor progress from a device other than the one running Claude Code — like your phone. I actually tried it out, and it might be genuinely useful. I could see myself using it when I’m rushed in the morning or walking on the treadmill at the gym.

最近活用している NotebookLM。読み込ませたものからクイズや音声を作成してくれるので、例えば資格勉強などにぴったりだと思う。 記事で紹介されていたが、作成した音声会話に自分も参加できるのは知らなかった。 それってこういうこと？みたいな認識確認したり、追加質問できるのはより学習を効率的に深められそうだ。 ぜひ活用していきたい。

I’ve been getting a lot of use out of NotebookLM lately. It can generate quizzes and audio from whatever you feed it, which makes it great for studying for certifications. One thing I didn’t know — mentioned in this article — is that you can actually join the AI-generated audio conversations yourself. Being able to check your understanding (“wait, does that mean…?”) or ask follow-up questions in real time sounds like a really effective way to deepen learning. Definitely want to make more use of this.
